I become involved in Hailsham Active in 2010 (when it was previously known as Hailsham and District Sports Alliance) . The main three things I would like to see taking place in Hailsham are:

The upgrade of existing recreation grounds to more inclusive and year round use.
New facilities to support future sport and recreation from sports halls, down to simple but effective new cycle and walking pathways to enable everyone to access exercise and nature.
Opening up of schools to increase potential facilities for sports and recreational clubs.

Supporter In my spare time I am a supporter of local clubs, particularly rugby (ex player and chairman of Hellingly Rugby club – member since 1976!); I help to build on free exercise classes we have started; I enjoy Cycling (for pleasure – not competition) and music for relaxation.

Primarily, I want to bring back the Run to Hailsham and to ensure that access for all is at the heart of the event.

I would like all our public spaces to be maximised to their full potential to enhance sport and activities.
I also aim to provide more accessible activities for our Community especially disabilities and SEN children and Adults. I would also like to acquire more suitable sports facilities for the town.

I'm a HTC Independent Cllr and a director of Hailsham Community Land Trust
I love organising events and empowering individuals to get involved with in our Community.

Hugh Thomas

I have lived in Hailsham since 1985 so have seen the town grow massively over the last 38 years.
I have a long association with sport in the town having played for Hailsham Cricket Club for 38 years, now having the honour of being Club President.
I also played rugby and coached at Hellingly Rugby Club.
Having been involved in sport through my hobbies and through my career in teaching, I have long appreciated the opportunities sport and leisure provides in improving and maintaining levels of physical and mental health.
To me Hailsham Active is playing a key role in trying to get the sports and leisure facilities we deserve and should be entitled to, as the fastest growing town in Wealden District. Clearly, District level data on Health and well being and on social deprivation, identifies a need for improved facilities in the town. The ongoing housing developments merit improved direct investment in the town and hopefully the completion of the Sports Hub will be the start a programme of improved sustainable provision in Hailsham.

Norman Harris

I am a Director and forming member of Hailsham Active, and previously of Hailsham & District Sports Alliance. I have been heavily involved in trying to sign up local playing fields under ‘ Fields in Trust’, protecting them for everyone for the future. I also worked towards installing the pathway at Western Road Recreation Ground, and latterly the lighting of the path, to enable all year round usage. One of my key interests is Hailsham Harriers.
