Hailsham Active plays a crucial role in supporting local sports clubs and physical activity organisations in Hailsham and surrounding areas, promoting healthy lifestyles and inclusive activities for the community. Lightning Fibre Hyperfast Broadband, well-known for its reliable services, has sponsored Hailsham Active ove the past two years, providing consistent support through initiative like the Quick Win Funding Scheme.
This successful partnership has raised £310,337 for local sports and physical activities, with more funding on the way. Projects funded include the Fighting Fit Boxing Academy, offering women’s boxing, boxing for teenage girls, and mixed juniors at the Hailsham East Community Centre, and the popular Hailsham Muay Thai Boxing Club.
The Healthy Steps Programme, which supports local people with long-term health conditions through low-level activity classes referred by GPs or nurses, has also benefited.
Additionally, funds have been allocated for pathway projects, lighting football goalposts, and other equipment.
Beyond fundraising, the Quick Win scheme assissts with developing constitutions, officially setting up clubs with bank accounts, and providing advice on capital projects.
Steve Wennington, Hailsham Active’s Chairman, remarked, “Much of the work we do would not be possible without the support and funding from Lightning Fibre, aligned with the fantastic knowledge and dedication of our ‘grants specialist’ Annette Buswell from Step Up Sports Consultancy Ltd. The funding is amazing, but the real thanks go to the coaches and organisers of our local sports, martial arts, and wellbeing volunteers who do so much for our local communities.
